Guest Artists and Monthly Announcements

We are pleased to announce that Nathan Sandberg a member of the Bullseye Research and Education team will be at AGFC July 25 to July 28 teaching “Kilncasting With Frit” and July 29 for “KSI (Kiln Scene Investigation) - Kiln-Glass Studio from Bullseye Glass Co’s BECon 2005.

Kilncasting With Frit

Kilncast glass objects may be made using a variety of glass materials. This workshop focuses on the particular advantages of using glass frits in the kilncasting process. Simple three-dimensional forms are used to explore the careful modulation of color that can be achieved by tint mixing. frit_forming (6K)
Students create open-faced castings while learning basic mold making processes, firing procedures, and basic coldworking skills. There are no prerequisites; however, a background in ceramics or 3-D modeling is helpful. Students will need to provide their own respirator with P100 filters.

Dates & Times: Friday, July 25 (9-5pm), Saturday, July 26 (9-6pm), Sunday, July 27 (9-5pm), and Monday, July 28 (9-5pm)
Costs: $795 (includes all materials and lunch)
Class Limit: 8 Students

KSI: Kiln Scene Investigation

Do you know devitrification when you see it? When is the firing cycle the culprit? Why does some glass break? When does it break? What are the limits of Tested Compatible glasses? This session expands on the wildly popular session KSI: Kiln-Glass Studio from Bullseye Glass Co’s BECon 2005. In this interactive investigation, we break into teams working with sample pieces and the firing cycles for those samples. Then we come together to discuss our findings and conduct an in-depth review of how they fit the theory of firing, specific glass chemistries, and other kilnforming principles. This is a must have class for anyone that owns a kiln or has been thinking of purchasing a kiln.

Dates & Time: Tuesday July 29, 6-9pm
Costs: $50
Class Limit: 20 Students

April Event

We would like to offer our fusing friends the opportunity to learn a unique and mysterious technique called “Freeze and Fuse”. Please join us for this free presentation.

You ask, what is Freeze and Fuse?

Imagine taking frozen glass and firing it in a kiln. Will you have a puddle of glass, or worse, an explosion? Come to the Freeze and Fuse demo to find out! Seriously, this technique can be used to make beautiful components, or stand alone pieces, using glass powders, water, a freezer, and a kiln. We will show you controlled color placement, layering, even an easy way to create a vessel. Learn how easy it is to make dimensional jewelry, or add depth and dimension to fused pieces. You will learn enough during this 1 ˝ hour demonstration to begin exploring on your own. In addition, we will offer a special Freeze and Fuse project day on Saturday, May 3rd (details coming soon). Come prepared to take notes!
